Material roots

Curated by Sarah Swift

July 27th - August 31st, 2019

Hera Gallery is proud to present the exhibition Material Roots, curated by Sarah Swift. This Group show includes New England artists: AnnaLiisa Ariosa-Benston, Tzu-Ju Chen, Molly Clare Coyle, Caroline Rose Kaufman, Erin Myles, Seanna Porier, Maggie Semrau, and Sarah Swift. The show will be held at Hera Gallery at 10 High Street in Wakefield, RI, from July 27th to August 31st, 2019. In summer of 2019 I was invited to curated a Month long group exhibition for Hera Gallery. Through this exhibition, Hera highlights a group of New England Jewelers, Fashion Designers, Textile Artists, and Interior Artisans who create wearable and experiential art and design that interacts with the body and can be utilized in functional ways. Material Roots explores the relationship designers have with the body and the self within their crafts, as well as their interest with formal aesthetics.

The Gallery will also be holding a weaving and natural dye talk and workshop on the following Saturday, August 3rd, at 1pm to discuss the artists’ processes, materials, and concepts during our monthly “Food For Thought” event. There will be an Artist Talk on Thursday, August 22nd, at 7pm. During the duration of the exhibition, artist and curator Sarah Swift will be on site, demonstrating weaving during gallery hours with the exception of August 17th.
